Environmental Solutions
An engineering team environmental companies keep for years
Hazardous-waste compliance, spill-response readiness, vessel tracking. These are systems that have to satisfy regulators, keep running when the signal drops, and stay firmly in your hands. We work inside our clients’ engineering teams on exactly these systems: at one of North America’s largest environmental services companies since 2021, and at a retail compliance company since 2019.

The operation and the record have to agree
Overview
A hazardous-waste pickup needs a manifest that matches what’s actually on the truck. A response team has to show its equipment is ready before anything goes wrong. A brand reporting its environmental footprint needs figures that hold up to scrutiny. When the operation and the record drift apart, the result is a failed audit, a wasted pickup or a fine.
We work inside our clients’ engineering teams on the systems that keep the two in step. That includes regulated-waste workflows that follow a product from the store shelf to disposal, field applications built for truck cabs and back rooms where the signal drops, and operations systems that track the equipment, people and locations that readiness depends on. Behind them sits the less visible work: turning high-volume tracking data into records and reports, connecting to the finance and legacy systems a business already runs, and, for sustainability platforms, the onboarding and data import that bring customers’ product data in.

Emergency-response and marine operations systems
Republic Services is one of North America’s largest environmental services companies. Our work with them began in 2021 with a single, tightly scoped project. Today our engineers work as part of Republic’s team across several of its operational systems, spanning emergency-response readiness, high-volume vessel tracking, and the client, contract and billing records that support them.

Retail hazardous-waste compliance
Smarter Sorting helps retailers and brands automate compliance, storage and disposal decisions for regulated products. Since 2019, our engineers have worked with their team on the store and in-vehicle applications that classify, collect and document regulated waste, built to keep working when the connection drops.

Customer onboarding and support for a climate-tech platform
Fairglow’s platform measures the environmental footprint of cosmetics and pharmaceutical products, covering life cycle assessments, scope 1–3 carbon accounting and eco-design. Our developers worked inside its engineering team on the parts of the platform customers meet first: a full onboarding experience for new users, a data onboarding site for bringing in product data from customers’ own systems, and support built directly into the product. Alongside new features, we led refactoring across the frontend and backend, so the platform was easier to build on.

Why environmental companies keep working with us
We already know the regulations
Our engineers have worked on hazardous-waste manifests, bills of lading, disposal records and emergency-response readiness. Your first sprint goes into your system, not into teaching us the rules.
We connect the field to the back office
A stop completed on a route, a vessel’s movements, product data held in a customer’s own system: we make sure it reaches your records, billing and reporting automatically, working with the platforms you already run.
You own it, and you can run it without us
We plan for handover from day one: documentation, standby environments and, for systems critical enough to need it, code escrow. We already run arrangements like this for systems that can’t go down.
One partner for the whole delivery
Design, engineering, QA and DevOps come from a single team that works inside yours, on a shared backlog and shared sprints, with no separate vendor track. You set the priorities and decide who runs production.
AI is part of how we work
Our engineers use AI tools across design, development and testing, within your security and data policies and to the same review and testing standards as everything else we ship. It shortens the path from backlog to release. When your system is ready for it, the same team can build AI into the product itself. See AI.
No single point of failure on our side
You’re backed by a full engineering company, not a handful of contractors. Knowledge is shared and documented across the team, so one departure doesn’t stall your roadmap.

How an engagement starts
Pick one contained system.
A module, an integration, a continuity layer: something with a clear boundary. That’s how our longest relationships started.
We learn the rules and your stack.
The regulations your system has to satisfy, what runs today, and where the operation and its records drift apart.
First working release in 4 weeks.
A real slice of your system, so you can judge us on shipped work.
Expand when it’s earned.
